It’s been a busy summer for The Beacon Centre. On Saturday July 12th we celebrated 10 Years of becoming a multi-use community centre. It has been a fantastic journey and we look forward to times ahead. We Celebrated by having a Community Funday; full of local choirs, Irish Dancing, penalty shoot out and a wonderful BBQ plus some locally made Vegetarian/Vegan food. Thank you to everyone who helped us celebrate and donated time to make it special. A thank you to Steve Race who also attended and gave a lovely speech.
Alongside our Birthday we also had the Sewing Project running for 12-weeks. It supported people to upskill and learn new skills; this was thoroughly enjoyed by lots of individuals and we hope to do this again in the future. A thank you to the Volunteers who supported and ran the project and Our Exeter for choosing us as a venue.
We have more recently hosted 4 Fundays and 2 Community Brunches; Fundays are accessible to families of children under the age of 11years; they have always been popular and the Charity continues to see the community benefit in keeping these going. The Brunches were supported alongside Ebbie Peters (our Community Builder). Ebbie created 2 events at The Beacon to give an opportunity for people in the community to come together, have something to eat/drink, a few activities and a chance to give feedback on their thoughts/feelings/ideas. The Brunches were successful and we hope to put these on again in the near future – they were intergenerational and lots of good things came from it.
Finally, we’d like to thank Natwest who dedicated their Volunteering day to support us during the Fundays this year; we are always appreciative of the support and we hope they return again.
